It is the dream of every parent to
see their children excel in their daily endeavours and career at large. Parents
always want the best for their children and are very proud of their children
that are on the right track in life, little wonder you will you see parents
introduce their children to their friends in this manner “This is my first son
his name is Donald, he studied medicine in the prestigious University of
Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). He is now a certified and competent Doctor. ” others
introduce this way “This is my daughter Cynthia, she is a first class graduate
of Accountancy, throughout her education she attended same sex schools and at
the tertiary level she attended Convenant University I am so proud of her
because during her schooling I made sure she kept herself intact as a woman. ”.
However these are seven reasons why
the choice of same sex school would prove to be detrimental in the long run for
your children:
1. It denies parents lack of complete control of their children
v
Most of these same sex schools are
boarding schools, so parents don’t get to see their children till its visiting
week or most commonly at the end of the term.
At a same sex boarding school these
children pick up habits easily from fellow students they feel are superior to
them in one way or the other. Judging from the current day situation where
emphasis in schools has shifted from how intelligent a students is to how
fashionable, sleek, good looking, rich and sociable a person is, it can be
easily seen that the habits students pick from each other most of the time are
negative ones and in the absence of the parent figure to control and curb that
on the daily, these habits slowly contribute to their attitudes and you see
such children engaging in smoking, drinking, cultism.
2. It doesn’t capture the full picture of the society
Students who attended same sex
schools for the majority of their schooling struggle when finally exposed to
the society at large. Thus they tend to be reserved and clueless when the
opposite sex is within range. They seems lost when the opposite sex behaves in
certain ways because most of the females have been taught in same sex schools
to avoid contact with males once they are outside the school vicinity, that
such things may lead them into unwanted pregnancy hence bringing disgrace to
their families.
So, when these girls encounter the
society, they are always miles behind other children who attended conventional
schools and learnt first hand on a daily basis how to interact, cooperate and
get tasks done together with the opposite sex.
3. Lack of sexuality? Then we will create one within
Most same sex students at senior
secondary level are well aware of the opposite sex and what they bring to the
table in terms of sexuality all thanks to Mr Technology and his many concubines
of social media like facebook, twitter, whatsapp, BBM, instagram and of course the web browser etc.
Although some students still remain
naïve at senior secondary school level, the few spoilt ones introduce them to
vices like pornography via videos, magazines and personal stories they
encountered while at home.
When their level of exposure to pornography
becomes extreme, they get innovative and try out the practises on themselves.
4. They make the greatest mistakes
When these students advance in their
schooling, they eventually find out that their parents basically put them in
same sex schools to intentionally deny them exposure with the opposite sex.
So when they now attend conventional
tertiary institution, they feel as if a chain has practically been broken in
their lives, they are now strange to this new found freedom so they try to
maximise the opportunity of the few months they have at school before returning
home at semester closure.
Hence they act recklessly, they try
to mix up and feel among with the crowd. They party to the extreme, gamble and
do lots of silly things in the name of catching fun. The girls might get
pregnant, some carryout abortion and some die in the abortion process. The boys
become radicals and arrogant and they might take to vices like stealing, raping
and cultism.
5. Social imbalance
This applies mostly to males, on the
average male graduates from same sex schools finds it very difficult to
approach a female and start up a conversation, be it in a church or any other
social gathering. They even find it difficult to respond and keep conversation
floating when approached by females.
It gets even worse when some of them
find it difficult to express their selves in public or even make new friends
males and females alike. They always avoid face to face contact when
interacting with people.
6. They don’t make good life partners
Men that are end results of same sex
schools are usually traditional and orthodox in their behaviours. They
generally believe that there is an assigned place for their wives which is to
prepare them food and produce babies, and to them they feel making money
available to the wife should be enough for her worries. They never consider
being romantic to their wives, listening more to her and spending quality time
with her.
In contrast, they spend time with
friends they have bonded very well with because they see this as a comfort
zone.
7 They
don’t make good fathers
Due to their traditional nature, men
that graduated from same sex schools don’t usually accept the change that
occurs in the society easily. So when their children start exhibiting tendencies
like talking about the opposite sex, or other sensitive topics these men
usually make the wrong decision by shutting the topic off instead of reasoning
and enlightening the child so they don’t get the wrong information elsewhere.
Consequently the children tend to be
more secretive and privy about events on going in their lives and this
increases the chances of such children making numerous mistakes in lives and
they learn life lessons the hard way.
So, parents send their children o
same sex schools to get the best out of them and prevent them from mixing up
and getting corrupt at an early age. However some of these kids pick up one or
more of these vices which makes their modus operandi questionable.
